General Directions to the Murphy - Hayesville Area

Directions From:

  • Atlanta: take 75 north to 575 through Elijay and Blue Ridge where it becomes 76. About four miles east of Blue Ridge take 60 to Mineral Bluff and then 60 spur north into North Carolina. When you hit 64 go right/east into Murphy. A little over two hours.
  • Chattanooga: take 75 east to 64. Continue east past Cleveland into North Carolina and continue east on 64 into Murphy. A little under two hours.
  • Knoxville: take 129 south to Maryville, then 411 south to 64 and 64 east into Murphy. A little over two hours.
  • Asheville: take 40 west to exit 27. Take 23/74 to Dillsboro and then 23/441 south past Franklin where it becomes 64. Continue on 64 until you come to Hayesville. Murphy is another 15 miles west. Takes about two hours.
  • Greenville-Spartenburg: Either take 26 to Asheville first or take 76 west into Georgia through Hiawassee, then 69 north into North Carolina and Hayesville. Murphy is another 15 miles west. Takes about three hours.

Friday Time Trial

  • From Murphy take 19/74 East towards Andrews. Turn Left at 141, then right on Airport Road. Parking is on off IOI drive, it is marked and about1/10 mile up the road. From Andrews head west on 19/74 turn right on airport road (this is also the detour around closed TT course) go approx. 5 miles to IOI Drive and follow signs.
  • The Time Trial course is 9 miles (4.5 out and back) and will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic. We have the two West bound lanes of 19/74, the southern or fast lane will be the out going and the northern or slow lane will be the returning lane, riders may not cross the white line between the two lanes. The Start is downhill and turns into a moderate steep climb then flattens out until the turnaround where you will go around the three cones. The Finish is at the top of the moderate steep hill. Finishing riders need to exit on IOI drive to return to their vehicles.
  • Parking and Registration will be at field on IOI drive (follow signs). Warm up roads are few and a stationary trainer is highly recommended. Riders will have to ride a short distance to the start line, only riders within 5 minutes will be allowed in the start area. Please follow marshals directions for parking and riding!
  • NO PARKING at start/finish.
  • NO WARMUP on airport road (19 Business).

Saturday Road Race

  • The start is five miles east of Murphy or ten miles west of Hayesville in the little community of Brasstown. See bike race signs along US 64. The 15 mile loop is beautiful as well as challenging with varied terrain including several short steep hills (suggested gearing 23) and good pavement.
  • Parking is in the lot and field across from or below the historic John C. Campbell Folk School. Course direction is clockwise.
  • S/F is at the entrance to the Little Brasstown Baptist Church (1/10 mile from parking).
  • From start, turn right at Folk School onto Brasstown Road which ends in 4 miles at intersection of Martins Creek Road. Turn right and continue for 5 miles until Martins Creek Road ends. Turn right onto Harshaw Road, continue for 6 miles to complete loop. Registration will be near the start finish line from 7:30 am to 30 minutes before your event. Pre-registration packets must be picked up at least 30 minutes before race time


Sunday Criterium *New Course

  • The criterium will be held in the historic Town Square of Hayesville located 15 miles east of Murphy.  Take US 64 east from Murphy straight through the intersection with Rt. 69, turn left at the next light (about 1/2 mile) and proceed approximately one mile toward town.
  • Race Parking is restricted to the ball fields at the bottom of the hill or the Community Building parking lot at the top on right. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE ELSE! Hayesville is very small and we are doing everything we can to work with the churches in town. Due to church traffic, parking is extremely limited.
  • The course is 1 true kilometer with one low to moderate hill five left turns and one right turn, this is a Technical course. Free lap rule for mishaps.
  • Registration will be from 7 am until 30 minutes before your event.
  • Allow time for parking in designated areas and getting up to the square.
  • Children’s event (ages 4-8) will start about 1:00 pm. – Prior to the Men’s Pro/1/2 event.

Saturday Walk Run

  • At the Muphy Medical Center. 4 miles from Murphy, Nc on US 64 East. This is an out and back, fast rolling course with no major hills.
  • Race Day registraton : 7:30 to 8:30 PM.
